Three Month Check-up

We spent this weekend in Darien, Connecticut with our good friends Brandy and Yuri, who surprised us with our very first baby gift: an organic bamboo wheat-colored newborn outfit with cap, kimono top, and pants, and a wheat-colored organic cotton blanket/play mat with cutout safari animals. We know it isn't easy finding gender neutral items (everything seems to have flowers or bulldozers on it, and it's a real challenge because we aren't going to find out the sex), so we were really thrilled, and we're very happy to have an organic mat that we can throw over our rugs when we put the baby down to play.

In Massachusetts, we have a three-day weekend for Patriots' Day (the Revolutionaries, not the football players), so we left to come home today in time for our three month appointment. We rushed so we could get there early, but weren't seen until almost forty minutes after our appointment time. We learned that everything was great with my tests that were run last time. I'm negative for everything I should be negative for and positive for what I should be positive for. I also finally found out my blood type: A +. (David and I have been discussing blood types for a while--mainly how superior he is because of his blood type. He is an O, the oldest blood type, dated back to 40,000 BC. Os are known for their hearty digestive system and their meat cravings. He assumed that I would be an A because of my fragile digestive system and because I don't process meat well or have a desire to eat it. So, he was right.)

Everything seems to be fine. I am still measuring at about a month advanced. We weren't able to hear a heartbeat today, which is certainly no cause for concern. However, this was the second midwife to bring up the concern of having multiples. Neither of us have twins occurring in our immediate families and we're well under thirty, so the chances are pretty low. However, at the midwife's recommendation, we are scheduling an ultrasound this week, because they would prefer to know for sure prior to my next appointment in four weeks. We'll certainly post the results. If there are two babies, there are two babies, but we're honestly keeping our fingers crossed for just one.
