Family resemblances

During our stay in Indiana, Dillon, David, and I had the opportunity to go through a large box of family photos at Pawpaw and Mawmaw's house that included photos of us as teens back through young photos of our great-grandparents. It was truly amazing to track family resemblences. There were several photos where the likeness of Dillon to our dad was startling! (I did not manage to send myself the files properly, but these photos will eventually be posted. Just for fun, here are some other photos of Travis.)

We also found this photo of Mawmaw; with the distance, one think it was me at seventeen. I had never realized how much we looked alike, and by that token, how much Dillon and Dad looked like her.
Here are some younger photos of Mawmaw where the resemblence is not as clear.

In the Cole family, the most remarkable family resemblances go back several generations. Avonlea Jane's great-great-grandfather Ernie passed on his looks through his son Ron to my cousin Justin. It is pretty amazing to bear a distinct resemblance to one's great-grandfather and be aware of where one's look come from. Even more amazing is how much Justin's son Lane looks like Ernie (his great-great-grandfather), and how Justin's daughter Evelyn looks like Ernie's wife, Doris.

We do see some Cole in Avonlea Jane, namely in her lip shape which is very pointed like mine and like Mawmaw's. She also has a round face like mine and has my coloring. However, other than that, she is pure Radue.

She does look like David, but she looks more like Jeff as a baby.

By Radue resemblance, we should say Barrett; it has been pointed out by more than one person that she looks a lot like Anna as a baby.

Just for fun, a tiny Roger:

In looking at family baby photos, we are certainly glad that Avonlea Jane did not inherit my ears. Well, at least we hope not.

But, David and I both hope that she inherited some of my sassiness.
