This weekend we decided to take advantage of the good weather (a balmy 35 degrees) and go hiking at Halibut Point State Park, one of our favorite places.

Last year for Valentine's Day, we got Avonlea Jane two feminist princess tales, CinderEdna and The Paperbag Princess. This year we continued the trend with Cornelia Funke's The Princess Knight. She also got two new swimsuits and a balloon.

Avonlea Jane got some wonderful Valentines in the mail and a few included some sweets. We soon learned that Avonlea Jane cannot be left alone in a room with chocolates, as she quickly made work of the foil wrappers and ate more than one piece of chocolate before we noticed.
Below is one of the valentines that she finger-painted for her friends. Finger painting was quite the adventure. We set her in the bathtub with card stock and a palette of paint, and she happily got painting. She absolutely loved it, and we were pleased that nearly all of her creativity was on the paper and not on her body.
