Our Christmas time baby doesn't get too much fanfare just for his birthday, so we've chosen to celebrate it properly on his half birthday.
Gear for our cowboy guests
Welcome to the R Family Ranch.
One of the first things the kids could do was try their hand as lassoing one our mighty steeds.
For those who wanted to play inside, we had a Buckaroo, a bucking bronco game set up and a table full of horse stickers, horse stencils, horse painting sheets, paper, and other art supplies for the kids to make their own ranch scenes.
Even our adult guests were in the mood to celebrate.
We made a huge pot of paleo chili and a little crock of vegetarian chili. We thought we'd be eating leftover chili for days, but every spoonful was gone by the time the party was over. Our chili bar with pasta, corn, red beans, black beans, onions, mushrooms, black olives, crackers, and cheese was a huge hit.
Eating not-quite-astride Big Court.
The kids played with all of our backyard toys, water table, and kiddie horse shoe game.
Some of the dads tried our snake toss game
Matched by height, it was time to take their paces for our quick draw contest
Draw!
Water balloon mayhem
With 13 kids and around 25 adults, anyone was a balloon target
When we ran out of balloons, we got out our sprinkler.
With guest list featuring an assortment of food sensitivities, we opted to make a watermelon cake.
After lighting 2.5 handles and singing "Happy Half Birthday," we let the kids deconstruct the cake.
After playing in the sprinkler, many of buckaroos were down to just their underoos. That's a sign of a great party.
