We spent a day touring Jekyll Island, former winter playground to America's elite.
Ready for our tram tour
The first "cottage" on the island
The "cottages" just kept getting bigger. This one belonged to the Rockafellers.
The Clubhouse, where all members of the island took their meals.
This was the most elaborate home, owned by the Cranes of Crane Plumbing. The Cranes spent most of their year in Chicago, but wintered on Jekyll and summered at Castle Hill in Ipswich. The blog has shown many photos of the kids playing on the grand lawn of the Crane Estate near us.
Hardly a "cottage"
Everywhere we went there were creatures.
That tiny dot in the upper right is Avonlea Jane sitting down. The water was so shallow, you could go out in the water for over a quarter of a mile and not hit your knees.
