Bath time

Grandma and Grandpa R left Saturday morning after a well-appreciated two-week stay filled with household repairs and lots of cooking. We're looking forward to all of the grandparents coming back in shortly for Avonlea Jane's baptism.

Some things about Avonlea Jane:
She is now three weeks old. We can't believe how much bigger her head and hands have gotten. It's as if all of those gained ounces went straight to her extremities. We can't wait until her thighs get bigger so that she'll fit into her cloth diapers. We didn't expect her to be so tiny, we don't know where she is hiding all of her 8+ pounds.
To clear up confusion, as we have been asked more than once, she has blue eyes. They are blue now and were blue at birth, they just photograph dark.
She has a tiny birthmark on the ring finger of her right hand that is shaped like an hourglass.
As for sleep--which seems to be the big question--we're all doing much better now. After only getting ~18 hours of sleep for the first week, I am especially grateful for this. She certainly isn't a fussy baby, but she does have a few hours of fussiness due to gas every evening. However, the last few nights, she has slept in a five-hour stretch at night, which is amazing for a co-sleeping breastfed baby of this age.
Sunday, after many false starts, we finally gave Avonlea Jane her first bath. She was born clean, so she wasn't bathed after she was born, and after that babies don't really get dirty. So, her first bath was rather quick. And, as you can see, she started out okay with it but gradually got more displeased. We're not sure if she didn't care for the water, the air temperature, or the way that Daddy needed to prop her up.

What a beautiful sweet baby girl! I'm glad to hear you are getting some sleep. She is a dream.

She is sooo sweet!! I hope to meet her sometime soon and to see both you and David!

P.S. I enjoy that David took the time to cover her girl parts! When she is older she will appreciate that!

David's hand coverage in the photo was a coincidence, as he was just keeping her propped in the little tub, but I definitely wouldn't post pictures of a completely naked baby on the internet.
