Labor Day

Will has been hitting milestones left and right over the last few weeks. He started crawling in July and since then has progressed to being able to pull himself up to standing. He can even shuffle a bit while holding onto something.

Avonlea Jane was excited to get her own art gallery in our back hallway.

On Monday night (a couple weeks ago), we went with our neighbors to have dinner at the Willows, and Karen treated Avonlea Jane to a helicopter ride.

David, Karen, Doug, and Janet racing in the casino. This is pre-baby, as since then, our neighborhood has welcomed baby Elias.

Avonlea Jane enjoyed pushing Will in the swing at her Tuesday play date at Justin's.

That Wednesday, when we dropped David off at the Common to play Frisbee, as soon as he shut his car door, Will called out, "Dada," for the first time. Thankfully, he repeated it when we saw David again, and it's been "Dada Dada Dada" ever since.

On our way to the Farmers' Market

Avonlea Jane went over to pick out balloons, choose a design, and pay all by herself.

As we were leaving the Farmers' Market, we had an experience that will certainly be remembered. We were walking down Artists' Row to go meet David so that we could have dinner at the Willows with Nina, and A. stopped to watch a group of women making chalk art. They offered to let her help decorate the sidewalk, and she was thrilled. She drew for a few minutes and declared the artists should all draw clown fish, when we were all startled to see some of the art washing away. Avonlea Jane was the most surprised to discover she had peed down her leg. After murmuring a mortified apology, we made a hasty retreat to the car.

All dry at the Willows, we enjoyed some Flicker Derby--a combination of skeeball and pinball--after dinner. This is my favorite thing at the Willows, and one summer, my high score stood much of the season. This talent is obviously hereditary, because the horse in the far lead on the board is Avonlea Jane's.

Her winnings from beating Mommy

Over Labor Day weekend, Avonlea Jane helped Daddy with some hammering.

Even though he's been crawling for weeks, Will just sat up for the first time that week.

On Sunday, we went to a barbeque for our game group. Avonlea Jane helped Ryan with the pinata pole while David put up the badminton net.

There was a ton of food at the party, but nothing was more impressive than Louise's Scrabble tile cookies.
