Maritime Festival

The kids had fun coloring and playing with other kids at a weekday potluck at our friend Kasie's house.

My friend Erin and I enjoyed Kasie's Whole30 kick-off potluck. A group of us, who were already grain-free, are all doing a Whole30 cleanse, where we only eat whole foods for thirty days and eliminate all grains (including corn), legumes, dairy, soy, alcohol, sugar, and natural sugars. Fruit and nut butters also very limited.

Avonlea Jane and Erin's son, Cad

Happy to be at the Salem Maritime Festival during the Salem Heritage Days

The kids each made boats

Avonlea Jane got to tour her first Coast Guard vessel, a lifesaving ship. She impressed the officer on the gangway by asking, "Permission to come aboard?" Then, when she was given a tour and shown the aft part of the boat, she asked, "You mean the stern?" She then told her guide all the ship's directions and later in the tour asked where the head was. We did make sure to point out that her uncle is in the Navy; she's not just nautically precocious.

Steering a remote-controlled boat

Going on a hay ride (pulled by he-hes!) around wharf area of Salem

Avonlea Jane made a starfish print.

Flying the kite she made

Will made a wooden boat, but he was more interested in pulling off the dolphin decorations and putting them on his face.

Avonlea Jane loves having her face painted.

She cried half of her butterfly off when we left to go home and quickly fell asleep.

She wasn't the only tired one.
