High Rock Tower

Today was another fun one for the kids. In the afternoon, they went to a little kids' writing workshop at the house of friends. They listened to a reading of different types of ABC books, and then they were each given their own blank books in which to try their hands at writing their own books.

Avonlea Jane didn't get to finish hers in the time we were there, but her alphabet so far was: Apple, Ball, Clam, Daisy, Egg, Flapjack, Game, House, Igloo, Jelly, Kangaroo, Listen, Mommy, NO, Orange, Popcorn, Quilt, Raspberry, Sun, Toy, Umbrella, Vulture.

After dinner, we went as a family to the High Rock Tower Observatory in Lynn, as they were having an open house to view the moon and the rings of Saturn.

Avonlea Jane is climbing the circular stairs hand in hand with her friend Camille. The top of the observatory is a small room, so they only let people go up in groups of less than ten. They asked that everyone allow groups with young children to go first because of their bedtimes. While that meant it wouldn't be dark enough to see Saturn, with the youngest kids in attendance, we were lucky to be in the first group to get to go up.

Avonlea Jane loved seeing the crater-covered moon. Will was picked to be the first person to take a look, but with one of us giving him a boost and the other helping him to cover one of his eyes, we didn't get a photo of him looking. Both kids thoroughly loved the experience, though.

As is often the case, on the way down, one of kids hit what we call The Fun Wall.
