Haunted Happenings Parade

Last night was Salem's Haunted Happenings Parade, the official kick-off event for the month of Halloween festivities. Prior to the parade starting, we went to a costume party for the little one. Last year, Avonlea Jane was also invited to a costume party before the parade, and many of the same kids were in attendance. This year we didn't manage to get a group photo of all of them, but it was amazing how much bigger they all were. The party was quite the menagerie, with our little Dorothy being the only human toddler in attendance. She was joined by a spider, two monkeys, an elephant, a bear, a ladybug, a penguin, a giraffe, a turtle, a dog, and Winnie the Pooh.

As the only parents who also came in costume, we were given much praise.

In other exciting news, Avonlea Jane was given her first potty yesterday. I explained that it was a potty and that just like Mommy and Daddy use a potty, she could use hers instead of her diaper. She sat down on it and right away asked to have her pants and diaper removed. After another minute of sitting there, she proceeded to go in the potty. We were pretty excited that this happened on the first try, as was she.
