For Father's Day, we took David on an Essex River Boat cruise. The kids were really excited about it.
We were seating at the bow and should have been warned that we were in the "splash zone."
It got a little chilly onboard, but the kids were pleased with the view and the free milk and cookies.
By the time we left, Avonlea Jane was proud to demonstrate she knew all of the ship's directions: port, starboard, bow, and stern. She also knew a ship bathroom was the head.
After our cruise, we ate dinner at The Farm in Essex, a perfect restaurant for the kids, because they could play in the sand volleyball court in the restaurant's backyard while we waited for a food to be brought outside.
The next day, the kids and I loaded up the car and set out for Indiana. We made a quick walking stop at the North American Martyrs Shrine along the Erie Canal.
No one was in the mood to go out for dinner, so they enjoyed whatever could be delivered directly to the room. Pizza it is.
Will definitely preferred to eat salad, though.
On our second day of driving, we made an extended lunch stop in Mansfield, Ohio.
We went to my friend from grad school's book store: Main Street Books.
Then the kids enjoyed a true diner experience next door.
The highlight of our afternoon stop was the Carousel Park downtown.
Avonlea Jane wanted us all to ride ostriches.
