Uncle Dillon's Naval Graduation

After a (moderately long) drive up to Chicago in 104 degree weather, the kids sacked out. They love sleeping in a big hotel bed together.

The morning of Uncle Dillon's graduation was filled with anticipation and excitement. It was a little too much for our big kid who, too with a nervous stomach, needed to have a wardrobe change in the parking garage. Thankfully, the little kid stayed spiffy all day.

After getting sick, someone wasn't feeling very smiley, because she was no longer in her special Navy dress.

Not even Mommy could coax the duck lips off her face.

Grandpa tried to get her to practice different expressions. "Look sad." "Look angry." "Now look happy." That teased out the smallest grin.

Waiting for the ceremony to start

When the state flags marched across, they spelled "N-A-V-Y."

They then processed in the order of their dates of admission into the union.

Once the sailors turned to face us, you could only see them from basically their eyebrows up, but Dad and I were able to spot Dillon. He's in the third row from the left, sixth from the back.

Despite getting to the hall hours early, we still had nosebleed seats. They wound up being wonderful, though, because we could actually see the ceremony without having a blocked view.

Will was enthralled with the ceremony.

Sitting in the very last row was also great, because the kids (and David) were able to crawl back there and play.

"Now, smile like your sister."
