On Friday, we went up to Joppa Flats for a class on backyard bugs.
Playing with the butterfly finger puppets they made at the start of class.
Armed with backyard maps, the kids learned where bugs like to hang out.
Getting ready to play the caterpillar game
They ran around eating mat "leaves" and putting them under their shirts to show how fat caterpillars grow.
Hanging out in a chrysalis before turning into a butterfly
Looking at preserved moths
Touching a real caterpillar
After learning about bugs, they tried their hands at caching some.
Holding up his first two bugs
After our scheduled class, there was a touch tank demo going on in the lobby.
The Audubon site does drop-in mini programs every day in the summer, in addition to the classes for which you have to register. When we were done with our class, after giving the kids some time to explore the touch tank and make beaded bracelets, we headed back outside for a little bit to hear a mini talk on bug catching and try to catch some more bugs.
Holding a sea snail
We left Newburyport and drove to Tendercrop farm to pick up some bacon and other things for breakfast over the weekend.
Looking at the animals
After a visit and snack at farm, the kids weren't done having fun for the day, so we went to the Wenham Museum.
Looking at toys that go
After such a busy day, we weren't surprised to find Will asleep in his favorite spot.
As a note, this is the blog's 400th post!
