Fort Frederica

On our last full day on St. Simons, we decided to go to Fort Frederica, the remains of a town/fort from a 1782 skirmish between the Spanish and British.

Getting into the spirit

Only a couple structures were left standing after a fire destroyed the town. You could see where many of the original foundations were (filled in with oyster shells). There were archaeologist crews out working while we were there, and we were told they still find artifacts on the grounds. In fact, Roger found a musket ball while walking around and alerted the park ranger to its location.
