Half way there!

We had our five month check-up this week. This means we are half way there! The baby seems fine; it's still in there. For all of you who are anxious for an accurate heartbeat reading in order to try to guess the sex of the baby, don't hold your breath. Every time we're able to briefly hear a strong heartbeat, but the baby moves before you can start counting.

The only thing not doing excellently at the moment is apparently me. If you totalled up the weight that I currently have that would include the gain of the baby, amniotic fluid, uterus/ breast/blood expansion, I have lost a total of 35 pounds over the course of the pregnancy. A month ago it was nothing to worry about, but I keep losing. I don't have to gain any weight, I just need to keep it steady. So we totalled up what I eat during the week and I'm getting 500-1000 fewer calories a day than I should (mainly because what I can stomach are raw fruits and veggies and they don't exactly pack in the calories). So the plan right now is to try to at least bulk up on more protein, and the midwife and David have devised that the way to do that is to eat hard-boiled eggs every day.

20 weeks: The baby should weigh around 10.5 oz. and be 10" from head to toe. It is also now producing meconium. In funnier news, we recently heard of a mother who named her baby Meconium because she read it on a form and thought it was nice. Wait until that child finds out it was named after sticky tar-poop.
