Jamestown

Avonlea Jane was excited to go to the Jamestown NHS because she wanted to become a Junior Ranger. It was interesting to learn why people make such a big deal about Plymouth but no one seems to remember Jamestown being the first English settlement. (For the record, Salem was third.) We were told it had to do with Yankee efforts during the Civil War to make the North more prominent in American history.

"Daddy, go kneel in front of that oven," she told him.

The kids did a great job working on their Junior Ranger packet, especially as they didn't have different ones for different ages. They were doing the same packet as the teenagers who visit the park. When Avonlea Jane turned it in, she was praised by a ranger for having done all of the activities in the book instead of the minimum required.

We did a lot of plaque reading so that the kids could answer the questions in their packet.

Pocahontas's hands are shiny because almost every kid holds her hand in their pictures.

Turtles!

We were staying near a huge playground.

Everyone did the zipline except Avonlea Jane.
